What You’ll Need Before You Start
Your CROSSRAY Outdoor Kitchen is supplied flat-packed on a single pallet and typically includes:
- The BBQ module
- Cabinet modules
- Sintered-stone benchtops
- Doors, panels and hardware
- Optional fridge and sink modules, depending on your model
Your workspace should have:
- A clean, level surface
- Good ventilation when assembling inside a structure
- Power access when installing a beverage cooler
- A second person for lifting heavier components
Recommended tools:
- Phillips head screwdriver
- Flathead screwdriver
- Adjustable spanner
- Safety glasses and gloves
If you’re planning a permanent alfresco setup, explore our Stratco Outback® Patio options or the Umbra Awning Shed to create the ideal cover while maintaining ventilation requirements.
Step 1: Unbox and Lay Out Your CROSSRAY Outdoor Kitchen Components
Start by carefully opening each box and laying out the pieces. The instructions include a component checklist, so tick everything off before assembling. CROSSRAY components are heavy, especially the BBQ and benchtops (not to mention fragile), so take your time and protect surfaces by using the cardboard packaging as a work mat.
Inside the barbecue cabinet box, you’ll find:
- Side panels marked with L and R
- Rear and front panels
- Brackets
- Adjustable feet
- Castor wheels
- Top panel
- Hardware pack and instructions
This is also where you’ll find the Alfresco compliance checklist. If installing inside a structure, make sure ventilation requirements are met before you continue.
Step 2: Build the BBQ Cabinet
The BBQ cabinet serves as the anchor point for the entire outdoor kitchen, so assemble it first.
- Install castor wheels and adjustable feet: Attach the castors using the supplied flathead screws. The adjustable feet help level the unit once positioned.
- Attach the base and side panels: The left and right side panels are clearly labelled. Install one at a time, ensuring the front catches face forward.
- Add the brackets: Install the small brackets at the back and the larger brackets at the front. Keep the screw holes aligned to ensure the top panel fits correctly.
- Fit the rear panel: Slide it between the side panels, aligning the threaded holes at the top. Secure on all sides and the bottom.
- Install the top panel: Two bolts with spacers sit at the rear to support the benchtop cutouts. Fit these first, then position and fix the top panel.
- Hang and adjust the doors: Final alignment is normal. Minor hinge tweaks ensure a smooth, even close once everything is connected.
When this cabinet is done, move it into position. If installing under cover, now is a good time to install heat shields to protect surrounding surfaces.
Step 3: Assemble the Storage Cabinet Modules
Your outdoor kitchen may include double cabinets, single cabinets or fridge modules. These assemble in much the same way as the BBQ cabinet:
- Build the cabinet frame: Attach the rear panel first, then the upper rear panel if your model has shelves or brackets.
- Install internal brackets: Feed the brackets through from the back and secure with countersunk screws.
- Attach the front door bracket: Ensure the catch faces forward and fix it between the two side panels.
- Add shelves and support bolts: Install bolts with spacers into the side and rear panels to support shelves.
- Fit the benchtop fixings: Attach internal screws loosely to the underside before installing the benchtop.
- Fit and adjust the doors: Minor adjustments are normal and can be finalised once units are aligned.
Step 4: Install the Beverage Cooler Module
- Unbox the cooler and locate the airflow bracket: This bracket mounts at the rear to push the cooler forward and assist airflow.
- Feed the power cord through the rear panel: Guide the cord before sliding the cooler into position.
- Slide the cooler into position: Once in place, connect to power. Ensure outdoor-rated power points are installed by a licensed electrician.
Step 5: Install the Sintered-Stone Benchtops
CROSSRAY benchtops are heavy, durable and designed for outdoor use. Lift with at least two people.
- Flip the benchtop and install internal screws: Attach these to the underside, but keep them slightly loose.
- Position benchtops onto the cabinet: Ensure the overhang sits at the front, then fasten the screws from underneath.
Step 6: Position and Connect the BBQ
Your CROSSRAY BBQ is the heaviest part of the installation, so use two people for lifting.
- Remove the protective panel and foam: Remove transport protection before lifting.
- Lift the BBQ into place: Position it on the cabinet, ensuring airflow and spacing requirements are met.
- Gas or electric connection:
Gas: A licensed gas fitter must complete the connection.
Electric: Plug into a weather-protected outlet.
Working with a professional for the connection of gas BBQs keeps the installation compliant and protects your warranty.
Step 7: Final Checks and Finishing Touches
- Align and tighten all doors
- Level the adjustable feet
- Check airflow gaps around the beverage cooler
- Ensure the BBQ is correctly seated
- Wipe down all surfaces
- Install any optional accessories, such as handles or shelving
With everything complete, your CROSSRAY Outdoor Kitchen is ready to enjoy. Fire it up, pour a drink and settle into your new outdoor entertaining space.
