The Block 2025 House 5 - Robby & Mat's Shed

Robby & Mat of House 5 designed their garage to do more than store items or park vehicles. Their vision combined practicality with personal well-being, creating a space split into two distinct zones: a dedicated workspace and a fully equipped personal gym. A central personal access door connects both areas, making it easy to move between them without stepping outside. With roller doors at both ends, the garage maximises access, natural light and airflow, ensuring each zone feels open, versatile and welcoming throughout the day.

Architectural Integration

The garage was deliberately engineered to mirror the home’s architectural roof line, incorporating a 30° pitch for cohesion and style. Smoothline® gutters, chosen for their generous water-carrying capacity, tie seamlessly into the design. Externally, the structure is clad in curved corrugated sheeting – a subtle nod to classic Australian design – and finished in COLORBOND® Basalt®. The cool, steely undertones of Basalt® complement the home’s roof and trim, delivering a strong, contemporary finish that feels polished and complete.

Durable Interiors with Character

Inside, the garage was engineered with 600mm roof purlins and wall girts to allow full internal lining. Plywood panelling, painted to suit each space, adds durability and a clean finish, while batten lighting integrated into the exposed roof structure delivers an industrial edge that supports the workshop and gym’s intended use. With an exposed roof left deliberately open for height and character, the design balances practicality and aesthetics in equal measure. And with Stratco’s custom engineering, premium COLORBOND® steel cladding, and a 25-year structural warranty, the space is built to withstand Australia’s harsh environment and deliver long-term confidence.

A Space for Work, Training and Lifestyle

Though classified as a Class 10 non-habitable building, House 5’s garage shows how thoughtful design can enrich everyday life. It’s a place to get hands-on with projects, a space to focus on fitness, and an environment to simply unwind – all within a structure engineered for strength and designed to last.
